Update: The text below on this page was originally on account of a different outfit and now open case with the state dora since there was no legit active broker's license for the person & entity (LLC) but instead of doing the business that they're intending to do with all the legal messiness they figure they'd take advantage of my vulnerability, maybe bring me in on an awkward confrontation with another tenant that they aren't competant enough (legal enough) to handle any other way other than help take part in a collaboration to get some social justice, if nothing else ... it's so common now it's downright boorish. Now I can't seem to get this other one here to refund application deposit money of two bills even though by my state law they're supposed to. I'm a veteran & on disability & my US Navy military discharge document has notation that I'm "physically disabled" but yet people take advantage if they can & depend on plausible deniability to get away with it for another day.
I had originally (attempted to, through various online means) message the employees of this company that I could find, including the individual listed as the broker, licensed by the state real estate division, department of regulatory agencies. (I've been to my state's DORA office twice and have spoken with a state employee regarding another issue, but the last time is related to this fiasco, from even only by my perspective, though, since the reality is that it turned out that the Asset Living corporation took advantage of the dynamics specific to the industry where lack of adequate enforcement of law leads to specious adherence and purported knowledge along with cultural attitude of civil disobedience, vigilantism, where the impetus is to force older veterans on disability out to the skids where there are others in that position so why not me too? ...type thing.) Now, it may have not been on the woman's mind that I spoke to who admitted to being an employee of Asset Living that she's in the position to teach me a life lesson... that (of course) she's in the position to be teaching me a life lesson... & she must be the very first person to be teaching me a life lesson... & that is I must deserve to be out on the skids (or whatever) ... or maybe I shoulda just swallowed my "pride" (in being humble) & reach out for help to some people who'd be glad to take me into their folds, & help me & all that ... but of course they'd be all about helping me to be out on the skids unless I relent & learn how to look down on other human beings (like I'm supposed to ... I'd be rich & all that if I just learned to be comfortable with white people abusing vulnerable, disadvantaged people of color ... & oh, I must exaggerate, virtue signaling here myself ... but see missionrock.net where there were other residents adversely effected (affected?) by the property managers' stubborn attempt to shame me ... & I don't exaggerate there either, it's not grandiosity but of course that's stigma too... Not to repeat here I'll include another tidbit where how the lead maintenance man (regional, so not there daily), he saw me coming in through the same door, but outer one of set, & a young Black man was outside smoking & so had a plastic bottle wedging the door open ... I knew it was because the callbox was also malfunctioning for tenants so I went in through the door, being careful to leave the young man's entry unimpeded (the culturally prudent thing to do to not come off as a racist asshole). The regional maintenance supervisor was there with one of the building's staff and he told me to not wedge the door open. I responded that the wedge was there already, a young man was outside, and it wasn't my position to remove the wedge since I'm not building security. Now, during that exchange, the young man walked in on the discussion so I even actually said "he was out there", indicating the young man who was clearly there in the same room (building lobby) at that point. There is something else about that too, and that is the supervisor was Asian descent and I know, from my own experience and cultural education, that some can be raised to be prejudiced against Blacks. The impression I got was that he wanted me to get mixed up in committing a solecism, so my reputation is ruined. As an advocate, my reputation of being a reasonable, culturally aware, sociable, courteous, honorable man is part of my livelyhood, where I don't make income directly but my contribution is my testament to the fact that those in my demographic are not freeloaders (let's not mince words), as a rule. There is a whole lot more than some realize, but cultural appropriation where people who claim to know something of the system proliferate stigma & stereotype, etc.
Oh... so after I messaged these people at Asset Living I found the actual law that was enacted, where before I was sending them the original house bill number. The language of the law is pretty much the same in the pertinent section.
CRS 38-12-903(4)
Rental application fee - limitations.
A landlord who receives a rental application fee from a prospective tenant and does not use the entire amount of the fee to cover the landlord's costs in processing the rental application shall remit to the prospective tenant the remaining amount of the fee. The landlord shall make a good-faith effort to remit such amount within twenty calendar days after processing the application.
What else came into play was an irony since one of the two apartment complexes (which both are managed by Asset Living, and I spoke to the same employee at both locations) had refunded me. The young man I spoke to, Eric C., had even insinuated that I didn't understand the process since he knew I applied for one (the one still needing refunded) but assumed that I thought the application should be universal for all the properties they manage ... he had assumed that I didn't pay another $200 deposit along with the ~$30 application fees (which the latter being "non-refundable" would be palatable under the circumstances). This brings to mind a question as to why can't a property management company transfer application information to another property, or maybe one of those things where of course they could, if you were the right person looking to lease the right property and maybe spoke to the right person, but the latter there could be dependent on first two points and socioeconomic disparity factors can bring unexpected results, as far as that goes. I once had a man with a masters degree say to me that it was a miracle that I was alive, & I was like, ok, I heard that, but he said he was serious because statistically men who suffered what I have normally have high mortality (although I won't go into what he was referring to, specifically) ... but he went on to say that the way it was decided (by a team consisting of him & his colleagues) to help me was by teaching me what he knew. What he meant by that is, in part, acknowledging to me that people take advantage of people who've been traumatized in our past. At that time I wasn't aware that the practice was common in real estate residential multi-family property management businesses which operate low to mid income (designated or price range) apartments. My counselor taught me the difficulty with enforcement of laws in regards to the Fourteenth Amendment, U.S Constitutional right to equal protection of law which was enacted for purpose of equality of justice on behalf of minorities. (The posit will get culturally appropriated by people who are not in minority, disadvantaged demographic who will stigmatize & stereotype people in the actual vulnerable, disadvantaged demographic as being irreputable, dishonest, etc. and the result can very well esculate to physical, vigilante type, attacks. It could then also be surmised that possibility is obvious and is a desired result.) That is known though, and so if adhered to it'd stand to reason that laws would be enforced in regards to violent crime committed against a Caucasion person, whether the perpetrator is family or not, to best of the system's ability, but by the very nature of violent crime victimology (for purpose here), whether they're minor or adult, the family dynamic may be to avoid any more discussion of some incident. The double-standard of what constitutes normal rites-of-passage events (normalization of being subjected to bullying ... and initiation type violence ... but non-disclosed as being such) & then segue to discussion of how it was a learning experience (scapegoating). Of course there will exist confirmation bias and ad hominem (Kafka-trapping) but of course that all can be repudiated & rebuffed by those dependent on subterfuge instead of ethical integrity. ...
The one I didn't receive a refund for was the first one with Asset Living I applied at and their website listed the apartment I applied for as "available" but when I went to the leasing office and spoke to Paola D. she said it wasn't available for another week. I said ok, and left. So there was a glitch in their software or something, I'm not sure. I have evidence of my contention where I submitted a form to the state in the transfer process for them where my chosen move date would be the twentieth of the month. I picked the day but that was what the state agreed to, that part can be a potential issue if I picked a date too far off I could be stuck with keys and respoinsibility of an empty apartment for days. When I begun the search I had allowed for time to give the people working as landlords time to work but then there was procrastination and other attrition. I had to give up $100 for a deposit for movers, even. So it almost seems as if the same employee was issuing the refund checks and when my name came up twice it was determined that one of two refund checks was enough... no, I kid not! It's like the rwality is that I have no real recourse so they can steal with impunity and it all wouldn't be so convenient & easy if they really weren't supposed to. What is expected by the property management business employees is the cultural sympathy that they can garner by appealing to emotion of the public in general, based much on anecdotal evidence, "horror stories" in a colloquial sense, but there's attitude that underhanded business practices are a mere part of the culture, or don't exist at all & just consumers being over critical and wanting to take advantage of the landlords' "good will", not that all lack the attribute, mind you, but to clarify what I mean is that the managers are ethical, which although a vague notion in itself it's expected of them with being licensed to do the business they are in within the state, which is common. I'd take that further to point out that there are lots of other types of businesses that are subjected to state licensing requirements and they're expected to comply with said requirements, including (but not limited to) complying with state laws.
The other contingency that I have to be careful of is getting too involved with neighbors in a multi-family complex and of course that's my responsibility to ensure that whatever degree I interact with other residents I do so in a courteous manner, etc., or appropriately and that of course is subjective, meaning it depends on who's perspective, e.g., if I raise my voice in irritation because somebody's dog is not on a leash and wishes to befriend me then that could be deemed unbecoming & disgraceful of me ... the dog owner's feelings hurt because I'm not trusting their training abilities (or whatever ... maybe they're thinking I imply that they're abusive to their dogs, but see... I'm even thoughtful enough to take into consideration that possibility. Like I told one of my VA_VASH clinicians (one of the smarter ones I've visited with while going through their program) is that people will assume that I'm not aware of some possible action they could undertake because I'm not saying anything about it but I would have thought of it and I was taught it was better not to give people ideas. I told her that by my family's experience we know that people can take some idea and impliment it but in a corrupted way, purposefully to undermine our position, and if that happens there's no retrieving the acceptable standard. Other white people can betray (for racist reason) & what's frightening is that it may not be a person, an aquaintance perhaps, themselves who can be a problem but someone they're familiar with (and so would have been aware of the goal to degrade & set a person up to initiation)... but the point being here that if our family reputation along that lines of being aware of imperialistic tactics and avoiding collaboration or implied agreement with some malicious act (which of course was supposedly entirely my idea, type thing).
A last point I could make here is that there are people in the business of property management who will be intent on expressing their awareness of social issues & educate people like me about how I'm no different then what's stereotypical, where my responsibility is that I allowed myself to be in a position where I'd need to rely on busy people to be conscientious enough to be accurate & thorough in their work ... whereas I must've failed somehow in similar position so I should feel the regret of my life choices (or whatever) but it's so blatant that it's logical that people want to project (transference, is the accurate word) onto me the stigma of being culpable or to blame for my circumstances of being on gov't housing assistance. Why and how it all really came about for me is something I should be ashamed of, seems fitting. Maybe I'm needing to be helped toward that perspective, is their thought. In any event, what it amounts to for me is that with so many different people that I'm inevitably going to need to interact with in the course of my life with my circumstances as they are, and the majority of whom have a friggin vendetta (is what it amounts to), there's going to be somebody that'll be able to extort some actual money from me ... steal from me. The fact that I'm a disabled veteran is what makes it so satisfying, I suppose. If I was really deserving of what I have then I'd have an entourage of honeys all ready to defend my good name (or whatever). Most of my oldest friends have already passed away. They didn't have an easy life (either). So then there's that. The fundamental attribution error is typically that my distress is indication of my weakness (I suppose) but in any case there's room for narrative that malicious action against me is justifiable because of my response. I've already figured out that what sets me apart is that I don't engage in cultural scapegoating of other groups of people, or sectarianism is an accurate word, but it's expected to be of extreme absolutes ... if I can't have a civilized discussion about immigration (for example here) with my conservative (to a fault) father (who was state delegate for Ben Carson), then it's obviously me who is the problem. My older sister isn't happy about the fact that I don't have a family, and is careful to make me very aware of that fact occasionally ... nothing else I've ever accomplished gives her any reason to boast and she explains that to me through clenched teeth and has then started hitting me in the past. (On two occasions I've received courtesy rides from local sheriff deputies out of the foothills during snowstorms.) I'm a good person!
To conclude this section I will point out that the cultural sympathy grants the property management business employees latitude for them to utilize plausible deniability, and a condescending posture where it's expected that their incompetency is due to a frenzied irrational trope involving Just world fallacy where the bias is that they're having to deal with a gangsta claste of grifter types but then "maybe we misjudged" (or whatever) but then it's how I don't align with how I'm expected to be in order for me to feel accepted in society ... etc. but what one shorter, Black man with a masters in social work, & decades in the field, explained to me was that he knew that there are white people who will abuse other whites (in various ways) but they figure that it shows they're not racist, but they're position is still a form of it since they're treating me (in this case example) in an inferior way because they know that my posit is to be an equal, fitting in with lower-income minority people, and so my integrity causes them to be jealous and so they retaliate. The intention is to cause me to be jealous of them. I admit here that I never thought of the dynamic in such a way, strange wording for me, but then with the missionrock.net fiasco, the day I was moving out they were just then getting around to working on the handicapped door opener that was broke at least a year, but it occurred to me that they might've figured that I'd get compelled to get more involved to where they could accuse me of damaging it. May sound paranoid but my built-in microwave door handle started acting up and, being out of the culture I'm from, I took the initiative to search the internet for similar issues and lo & behold I found exact same model with exact same friggin issue & emailed the management the maintenance request & the information (maybe I should mention here that I was first tenant in the new building, with loud alarm that would go off periodically, meant to evacuate, but got way too common for that to be reasonable) but it was ignored, and three different employees came to interview me about the problem, with each one trying a tactic to get me to concede to agreeing to accept culpability... like first things first... and go on explaining how I'm an ingrate or a clumsy oaf of an ingrate, etc. I also understand that it's because I look like I do, beard and all ... but if people think that I haven't been taught (the life lesson...) that I'm gonna look like someone rotten no matter what ... "oh, you look like (whoever or whatever)", type thing... no, I've spent my share of time being the butt of people's ridicule ... and there I was doing my best to contribute, with my labor & risk to my health & life, doing work that most would refuse to do. I've written more about my past elsewhere, but it's rather kind of sad that people think the worst of me when as a rule they wouldn't otherwise, with regards to other people. What's paradox then is that there are sometimes other people in a person's life that influence their perspective in negative way (instilling bias), yet the people (in my example here) could be using that peer pressure to create misdirection to provide concealment of their misdeeds ... that might seem to be a stretch here, but with corporate bureaucracy there exists mismanagement & corruption (to some level) and to compensate it becomes instinctive to take advantage of a control over procedures that's necessary in course of business in a way to increase likelyhood of more income, or less expediture. There would be an expedient resolution for them, not efficient. They can have a business paradigm that's counterproductive, and then deliberately so, out of condescending obstinence, like they're wardens, or some shit. (No good deed goes unpunished!) I'd like to point out though that I understood that the managers might not be in a hurry to actually fix that microwave and I resolved to get a counter-top model (I'm not fond of them being high up anyway and they probably shouldn't be that way in rental properties as a rule... (but there I go-offy once more on tangents.)

STAY AWAY!!!
After 2 1/2 weeks, 3 service calls, 2 fuses, 1 shield and all 3 door switches, my microwave is once again operational. Good thing I have coverage through DTE Home Protection Plan. The sad part is it's less than 14 months old. Frigidaire isn't what it used to be.
It started constantly tripping the breaker whenever I opened the door. The door is VERY difficult to open and close. I don't know if that's why the door switches went bad or not. If so, it will continue to happen. The loud, long beeping is annoying as well, but I can live with that. In any event, a microwave that is just over a year old shouldn't go bad, especially when it's used very little, not even daily. I do not use it for cooking, just warming. I don't even heat water in it. Very unhappy with the quality of this product. I will be replacing my bisque color fridge and stove soon and WILL NOT consider the Frigidaire brand. Glad I went with a GE dishwasher, works like a charm!
Oh! The conglomerate* wouldn't seem to apply to real estate businesses since they usually specialize in one particular type or another, commercial or residential, and even subdivided there, and the companies wouldn't typically have other kinds of businesses under a corporate "umbrella", if you will (like they'd stoop to that level, right?), but in the apartment leasing they often have a dissociative attitude, where "the right hand doesn't know what the left does" (but of course not in the way that relates to charity as it is there).
I'd first like to point out here that I have keywords associated with this page of "Americans with Disability Act, ADA violation, handicap accessible, accessibility" but are part of my "template", if you will. I suppose my expertise is more in line with gov't assisted housing aspect overall and in this particular case the business may be more compliant as to handicap accessibility than missionrock.net was. In that case they were deliberately cruel, as became very apparent since the day I was moving out they finally got around to working on the broken door opener (I kid not) when it was inoperative for months. They had thirty days to repair it after their building failed inspection (which I requested) but wouldn't & didn't and since the gov't assistance payments to them would be suspended until the door opener was fixed I thought it best to move. At that level their (real estate people's) business practices are frightening. They're fine with people out in general public believing that I'm just whatever kind of bad person. There's like a layer of impersonation to the real estate (investment) culture, to where the actual property owners conceal themselves (to the best of their ability) through using limited liability corporation designation (licensing, certification? I dunno specifics) and of course some protection from lawsuits. Property ownership can also be shared among a group in their portfolio, too, but all of that doesn't concern me really as long as I don't feel the need to find out exactly who the individual people are, from my perspective or position anyway ... I'm not thinking that other people might want to find out who they are for more nefarious reasons, or maybe just to sell them a lifetime supply of disposable pool covers (they removed the pool in this complex, which is fine, they're not really worth the risk as far as I'm concerned).
So here I ran into the very same issue I've had before to where the managers wouldn't account for the gov't assistance amount so the online payment portal wouldn't be accurate for me to utilize it and some wouldn't care ... and there I say "some" because the other aspect that I can't help but to associate with the residential property management field is the incredibly high turn-over rate... & although I'm perfectly aware of the narrative that "oh, they just moved on to better position", just business idea it becomes obvious it's more than that. If any one would counter with "it's a rough trade" (ok) but there'd be the associated stigma & stereotype of their tenants, especially with multi-family residential housing (apartments) ... and there I'd have to point out that is immediate sympathy (defense) of the associated enity in power who's or that's involved. A point of typical group dynamics involved with an organization to accomplish some goal, whether it be capitalistic venture or a human services type, will tend to degrade over time in terms of being detail orientated, but each to it's own form of process; the latter of which often leads to reduced funding, shortage of supplies, decreased sanitary conditions (e.g., in institutional facilities), etc. In capitalist ventures there are gov't regulations, licensing, certification, etc. involved which can be thwarted and affect humans physically (includes by definition, financially, since in average people put physical effort into earning money). Of course the other kind of degradation that can be associated with capitalist organization is efficiency, and like a human services organization, expediency, is substituted and proliferated by use of intimidation, attrition, rebuff, etc., where the individuals in the organization who are languishing most, a driving influence, can cause havoc on the ethical operation of the business. When it becomes necessary for gov't to get involved, imposing fines, investigating, etc. (which doesn't happen as much as it should or could, if funded adequately) then it could be argued that shouldn't happen at all... no, not for open free market or whatever nonsense, like people ain't capable to be mean & abusive where money is involved, but because of business ethics, it shouldn't reach that level (theoretically). The other risk is that a business overextends itself and can't meet its commitments and with real estate there can be humans adversely affected in the process. Laws are in effect in our society to minimize the chance of that which cover a range of scenarios (quite simply).
To get to the point here for this presentation is that by real estate broker licensing being involved and required when leasing properties to people in general public since there is safety concerns which is evident by there being established laws meant to protect both parties involved with renting, leasing. It could be assumed that when an apartment is leased out the entity offering the contract would need to be licensed. The person holding the license would obviously need to have a correct address associated with their name too, even if it is commercial type. I wouldn't have any reason to look these people up using the current online services available now. I'd really rather not have to do this since I've other things I'd rather do... it's not a hokey jealous obsession of mine which otherwise wouldn't involve me personally. In this publicly accessible webpage is the link for my landlord to verify payments made to them (commented out here), although still it's really up to them to acknowledge the true results. I'm thinking that they (some landlords, or apartment managers) feel it's ok for them to lie, sorta like cops interrogating suspects can, since they're doing a social service of sorts, albeit in a vigilante and misdirected way, by helping gov't housing assistance recipients off of the welfare roles (as it's so often stigmatized as) but in reality there are people on housing assistance who've suffered some of the most atrocious abuse in their lives. It's not like mine dropped into my lap one day, I went through a process too, and do what I can to show appreciation. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do here.
I looked up the property's county assessor information, too, and there were two limited liability corporations associated with the ownership. Looking them up in the state's business entity name database search it gives an address that's in northern California, near San Francisco and the business even sports a photograph of the local namesaked bridge. I looked up the name of the representing agent for the owners that signed the lease in the state's department of regulatory agencies database (although the real estate brokers have a separate online utility apart from the other services or industries which are licensed) and the associated name for the company (a LLC) has a different name associated with the license (not a big deal in itself, I suppose) but the address listed belongs to the office of a trade journal publication (serious!) and there's no individual by the name working for it (I personally visited the office & asked... no, I'm not stupid, the trade publication has the same address on their contact page of their website as the real estate broker's license). Both have 6021 Syracuse Way, #103 Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
The individual who signed to approve the leasing contract, Judith L. Mann, can be found in the database for real estate broker license too, but is listed as "Inactive".
This is relatable here because it was this young man, Elijah Gurule, who was the inspiration for me to move to my current residence. He was an assistant property manager for Syringa which was the company managing my old apartment complex. A month before I moved he had quit his job and he moved out of his apartment, though. That surprised me. The photograph he is using as a cover for his Meta profile was taken in the apartment he had and the cabinet hardware is the same kind that's in mine. He moved from the apartment over a year ago, and has some past posts public, but there's been no activity since.

Class conflict is another concept which upsets the oppressors, since they do not wish to consider themselves an oppressive class. Unable to deny, try as they may, the existence of social classes, they preach the need for understanding and harmony between those who buy and those who are obliged to sell their labor. However, the unconcealable antagonism which exists between the two classes makes this "harmony" impossible. ~ Paulo Freire

There's a point to this too, my paternal-maternal great grandfather's name was "Benjamin Franklin McCurdy" and provides evidence (here, there's more) of my family's culture of Quaker ancestry and religion, although isn't readily associated as such but isn't extinct either since the Society of Friends still assemble and participate in social activism (which is misconstrued as political, subtle difference, but maybe progressive would be closest label for political leaning. As a rule it's agreed that those of the culture are against capital punishment (disproportionate representation of people of color & it's not a deterrant ... I describe it was state sanctified retaliation, but by proxy and the people who disagree are scapegoated and by people purportedly supportive of religious freedom, meaning conservatives, they're supposedly representing oftentimes, but they're position is that they're the ones tough enough to make the difficult choices needed to have a degree of overall safety. What I associate with that issue is the newer trend to charge adolescents as adults, if the crime they allegedly committed warrants it & it's arbitrarily decided by a local judge. I think if there was ever an actual survey conducted it would reveal that the majority of voters wouldn't agree that is all acceptable. Now social media has re-established an imperialistic (the word I use) ideology and there's double-standards & gaslighting & all playing out before our very eyes in real time.
Benjamin Franklin printed anti-slavery literature for Ben Lay (who would also stand out in rain storms with only one shoe on in a protest to slavery ... he was hunchbacked & there's depictions of him in portrait drawings). My paternal-paternal grandfather was named "Sherman" who was the Union general who had the tank named after him. (I remember talking about him once and my friend's cousin laughed at me because I didn't know the significance of the name ... I wasn't raised to be fully aware of being Quaker descendant but there was a point by my elders to teach me about being weary of white culture that was racist ... we were most definitely not since we were really of the same social stratum. I was raised in such a way to associate the family prerogative of helping toward goal of equality with being participants in national security endeavours (military) but not as reason to be violent but peace keepers, which is idealistic too but in truth the men in my family were raised to always take stand against racist ideology, which could sometimes invite contention of other whites but we weren't to talk about that aspect. What's strange (for me at least) is that it seems ubiquitous that people like to discuss generalities in attempt to set some policy that can be unilaterally applied that's decided on ahead of time, but the keyword there is discuss since in reality it's not our place to employ the policy anyway, so it's a moot point. A person can only evaluate every circumstance by it's own merit since what is morally right & wrong can be dependent on who is describing the situation, and what information may be intentionally omitted in order to sway opinion.
One of my more recent projects was converting scanned magazine articles to digital text and one in a Colorado History magazine (printed in 1973) included an article about Junius R. Lewis. There was an injustice committed against him that entailed gender issues as well as the racism that he had to contend with. It's a fascinating story! (The article includes references so converting it to EPUB3 with audio reader capability is an aspect that needs work.)
